Ground penetrating radar services are a huge lifesaver when it comes to locating underground utilities and other buried systems. Used frequently to survey and prepare job sites for construction or repairs involving underground infrastructure, ground penetrating radar (commonly referred to as GPR) is one of the most accurate and least obstructive methods of mapping and marking what lies beneath the surface.

Another method of identifying and locating what is under the surface involves utilizing existing (and often inaccurate) utility maps and surveys. When relying exclusively on these existing resources, breaking ground is the only way to confirm their accuracy. Because digging blindly is expensive and can often be dangerous, it is preferable to analyze the situation before actually breaking the surface. Ground penetrating radar service GPR Services is the perfect way to accomplish this.

The combination of technology and the use of processes are the driving force to achieve this goal. The following is a few examples of the new technologies that Safe Site harnesses to build a better quality product.

Safe Sketch:

Safe Sketch is an innovative sketching application that Safe Site developed with Bytronics Inc. Safe sketch is designed to making sketching easier for the tech in the field along with providing a better quality product to the excavator. With safe sketch every sketch is identical, which brings consistency to a whole other level. All customer's marking standards are followed so there is never any doubt between a 2’’ PED gas line and an electric feeder. Each tech is outfitted with a printer, so they can produce a sketch on site after every locate is finished.

Digtrack:

Digtrack is the ticket management system that Safe Site uses to manage EVERY ticket EVERY day. The following are some of the features:

• Real-time Reception and monitoring of the tickets sent from the One Call Center

• Automatic Positive Response to the excavator via fax and or email

• Auto assignment of tickets to locators based on geography

• Numerous reports depicting productivity, compliance, jeopardy situations, trend analysis etc.

• Complete chronological audit trail for all events associated with the ticket

• Color coded list of incoming tickets to highlight emergencies, short notices, etc

• Distribution of tickets to field via email, fax, pager, handheld device.

• Map Integration to view location of dig site.

QC Process:

Safe Site takes pride in protecting all of Xcel energy's utilities; this is accented through the “quality control” process. Safe Site does not want all locates to end with the basic tech in the field. If the tech runs into a difficult or high profile locate. The techs are able to ask for help by creating a QC ticket. The QC ticket is then created internally and assigned to the supervisor or QC person. The supervisor or QC person will then check or finish the locate based the circumstances. Safe Site QC’s the following:

High Pressure gas

Electric Feeders

Unlocatable or problem utilities

Office QA process:

This year we have taken a giant step forward with the introduction to a quality audit team. This two-team is comprised of former experienced locators who understand what it takes to complete a quality locate. They are decked out with the latest technology including a dual monitor computer system. With Customer's prints on one monitor and the completed locate sketch on the other they are able to find any quality issues including missed utilities and documentation errors. Any quality issue is counted against the tech’s overall score. All Safe Site techs must maintain an eighty percent or better on their audit scores.

Locator incentive program:

Safe Site uses an incentive program to promote safety and quality in every locate we complete. If the tech completes a quarter with out an at fault damage, a safety incident, or they fail to hold an eighty percent or better on their audit, they are awarded a bonus of three percent of their gross wages for the quarter. If any tech fails to meet the above requirements, they will be penalized by a ten percent reduction of their wages for the following two weeks.
